ALE Chapter 9 - So It Begins

Different Life

"It was a gorgeous night, the type of balmy thick night we would never have in Forks. I inhaled deeply to memorize all of the smells around us, the air, the water.

“You okay?” Edward asked quietly.

I nodded against him. “You?”

“Yeah," he said quietly. “Just worried about you.”

I turned around to face him, leaning my back against the rails. “Why?”

He looked over my shoulder at the water. “It’s just going to be a different life for you now, all of us together… a lot. I don’t want you to feel overwhelmed.” His eyes returned to mine.

He looked down at me and smiled. “I know.”

“Edward, I’m sad to leave the island for obvious reasons. But… I’m really excited to start this life, too. I don’t want to mope and be morose. This is totally exciting for me.”

He looked at me, shaking his head. “You’d make Emmett proud," he said, laughing.

“She does!” Emmett called from the cabin, his eyes trained on the X-Box game. I laughed, realizing they were listening to everything we said.

Edward watched me closely, running this thumb along my bottom lip. He leaned down and kissed me softly. “Love you," he whispered.

“Love you, too.”

Here For You

"Carlisle took my hand in a rare physical gesture. “Bella, we have a lot to figure out about your gift, and I don’t think any of us knows what this year is going to look like in that respect. But I do want to stress to you that I am here for you. I am here to talk to, to think out loud with you, to help you work through things. It is possible that some of the things you deal with will be hard for Edward. He may not be able to be objective. If ever that is the case, I am here for you.”

“Thank you,” I said quietly, squeezing his hand. We were quiet for a moment as Carlisle released my hand.

“This has been… weird for me,” Carlisle admitted.

“How so?” I asked, curious.

“I changed Edward and helped him through the process. I changed Esme, Rosalie, Emmett,” he looked at each of them, “but not you. It was so perfect, so fitting, how it happened between you two, but it was strange to not really be involved. You were so still. So quiet. Edward just spoke to you the entire time. You two have so many wonderful stories together.” He said the last bit more to himself than anything else. He seemed to straighten up, catching himself lost in thought. “I feel a great deal of joy watching you two together. Probably more than I can explain to you. It’s hard, though, because that process of transformation and then guidance is a normal part of the bonding process for me. You and I will have to find time for each other even without that connection, okay?”

I smiled back. “Sounds good.”

Simple

"I spaced out looking out the window, trying to process everything that had happened in the preceding several weeks. At one point I felt like I was losing my mind thinking about it all. I couldn’t remember everything and started to panic, feeling as though none of it had happened, that I would wake up alone in my bed in Phoenix, the last couple of years only a dream.

I interrupted the conversation. “Guys? Wait.” They all stopped talking and looked at me. “Am I… dreaming all of this?” I was trying to swallow the panic in my voice.

Edward straightened up in his seat, worry lining his forehead. “Bella?" he asked, his voice anxious.

“No,” Jasper said calmly.

“Are you sure?” I looked at Jasper as I sat upright in my seat.

“Absolutely," he nodded at me. “We are your vampire in-laws. You are a vampire now because your bajillionaire husband, the hottest guy from Forks High, bit you in a moment of passion while you were staying on your Mother-in-laws island. You have crazy hot lips and a rocking body. You are immortal and have a gift that allows you to sense the needs of others and help them. You’re not dreaming.” He smiled at me and raised his eyebrows. See? Simple.

I snorted out a laugh, leaning back in my seat. “Right. Just checking. It sounds totally reasonable when you put it like that.”

Part of the Piano

“Wait,“ I said quietly. “I want to shower.” I was feeling sticky and completely unsexy.

Edward nodded and kissed my nose sweetly. “Go ahead. Come find me downstairs when you’re done.” I knew he was going to play his piano.

I showered quickly, pulled my hair into a twist and pulled on one of Edward’s t-shirts. I didn’t want to deal with trying to find something in the luggage piled in the corner. I saw myself in the mirror and decided to skip the t-shirt, too. We were alone, for now. Might as well take advantage of it.

I padded downstairs and the music coming from the living room almost made me fall to my knees. I walked into the room and stood back from Edward, watching him play his piece, his fingers gliding over the keys in the most beautiful movements. His body seemed to be part of the piano, part of the melody. He didn’t move much, didn’t sway dramatically over the keys, but his movements were fluid and sensual. Watching how gracefully he moved, I had the overwhelming urge to dance with him again. I heard my breath hitch as I inhaled. Edward turned slightly and I saw that he was smiling. He did a double take when he realized I was naked."

Lithely on Top

“Come here," he said, his fingers continuing effortlessly in the music. I couldn’t help but notice that the top was lying flat on the grand piano. I wondered if that was because it would be too loud inside, or because he wanted me on top of his piano. I knew what I wanted to do.

I walked up behind him and then hopped lithely on top, laying down on my stomach, resting my chin on my hand, watching him. He smiled at me, nodding, and then looked back at the keys.

“What are you playing?” I asked quietly."

What Are You Playing?

“Chopin. Nocturne in C sharp minor," he said quietly. “You like?”

“Mmm. ‘Like’ is an obscenely inadequate word," I whispered. “I’m in awe of you.” His fingers were fluid and strong, the muscles in his forearms twitching with the movements.

“It’s what I played on your body the other day.” He ended the piece softly and looked up at me. I was silent, remembering. I smiled at him, completely and utterly in love.

“Come here," he said again, leaning forward for a kiss. I leaned down and pressed my lips against his, letting my mouth open slightly.

“Edward…” I moaned, wanting him to keep playing but wanting him inside me also."

Sit on the Edge via gkkmouse

"He looked up at me and then at the top of the piano. “Sit at the edge,” he instructed, helping me move my legs how he wanted. He positioned me at the very edge of the top of the piano and spread my legs in front of him. “Lay down… like this," he said quietly, placing my feet on his shoulders. “I want you to really feel the music through my arms.”

He began playing and with his shoulders moving under my feet I felt like I was one of the keys, moving up and down with the music. It was a heavy piece, it could possibly feel sad, but the way Edward played it was sensual and full of love. I kept the weight minimal on his shoulders, just feeling his hands moving beneath me. The melody was mesmerizing, the piano vibrating underneath my back. I closed my eyes and let it take me over. The sound filled my head. The feel of his arms moving pulled me deeply into the music. I felt his breath against me and startled before I realized what he was going to do. His lips pressed against my sex softly, moving in rhythm with the music.

I felt his tongue push softly against me, his mouth moaning at the sensation. His movements didn’t intend to bring me to climax, it was clear. He was showing me how the music felt to him, what he was thinking about when he played. I wanted to cry. The feel of his mouth over me while he played one of the most beautiful pieces I had ever heard made me bring my hands to my face, trying to calm myself down. I breathed in deeply as the song ended. I couldn’t ask him for more, but would have given anything for him to keep going.

Before I could say anything he began again, the second piece lighter and softer. His mouth began pressing soft kisses against me, his tongue swirling over my skin. The sensation was completely different this time: lighter, gentler, his lips like air against me."

Every Song Is You via anntastic23

“Bella,” he whispered, just saying my name out loud. I turned my head to look at him and his eyes were closed, his head moving slightly against me as he played. He was completely lost in the combined sensations. This piece had many more quick notes and his shoulders moved softly beneath my feet. I couldn’t stop looking at his face, couldn’t believe how gorgeous he was.

The piece ended after several of the most amazing minutes of my life. He kissed my soft skin again, leaned back, and opened his eyes to look at me.

“What are those pieces called?” I breathed, barely able to find my voice.

“The first was Song Without Words by Mendelssohn. The second was Berceuse for Piano in D Flat Major by Chopin," he said quietly, looking at his hands. “They both make me think of you. Every song makes me think of you in some way. But those two… they almost rip me in half when I play them now.” The intensity in his gaze as his eyes met mine made me feel like I was falling. He looked at the stairs and then smiled at me.

“Bella, please give me a minute then come meet me in our room, okay? I want to get something for you.”

I nodded, still unable to form a coherent thought. He stood up and walked upstairs, looking back at me. I was still on the piano, just watching him move. I saw him break into a wide smile before he disappeared up the staircase."

Review by glo4twilight:

"this chapter was just fantastic had so much in it ..humor especially which was great!! as for carlisle omg he takes my breath away almost as much as edward does..i say almost! nonetheless his talk with bella was so full of wisdom and caring and concern it was just beautiful! then when everyone started analyzing bella it was so funny!! especially what the guys had to say without seeming like they were hot after edwards wife!!lol! then when jasper spoke to her on the plane about that it wasn't a dream and what he said to her about them being inlaws and how her bajillionaire..i love that...husband hottest guy from forks high etc etc and when he said that she has crazy hot lips and a rocking body etc was just absolutely classic!! i loved it so much! your dialogue is so impeccable what can i say!!"

Review by Feisty Y. Beden:

"I love the Cullen family dynamic like WHOA. Love! Everyone's so much fun. As always, I find the Jasper/Bella interaction awesome (and dare I say, kind of hot, in that "I like to flirt with this person b/c it's fun and b/c I'm totally into my partner so it is totally harmless"), love that Rosalie and B are buddies, love that everyone is exasperated at Carlisle, etc. My heart sunk a bit when I read that she'd eventually have to fake her death. Sigh.

But then! But then! Sparklelinguns on top of the piano FTW! Holy smokes. You, like, combined everything I think is hot in a few scant paragraphs of nether-combusting prose. Holy schnikies. FIRE IN THE HOLE! FIRE IN THE HOLE! *thud*"

Great quote via anntastic23:

“Moving on… of course, your gorgeous skin and bright smile could be attributed to the benefits of married life?” Edward said, smiling proudly and pointing his thumbs at his chest.

Jasper looked up at us from the other table. “Yes, Edward. When Charlie asks why Bella looks like a Grecian goddess you can just answer, ‘We had a great wedding night.’ That will go over well.”

“Go for it. Guns can’t kill vampires,” Emmett mumbled from the couch, his fingers working fast on the controller as Alice giggled, clearly kicking his ass."

*Thank you anntastic23 for all of your help on Chapter 9. I heart you.
